Each year winter water warriors take the leap to become Eau Claire Polar Plungers. Individuals who have endured this icy plunge and live to tell the tale know that this event is not for the faint of heart, but for an exceptional cause. This unique fundraising tradition assists in benefiting Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) athletes to further achieve their goals, live healthier lives, and have a sense of inclusion in the Chippewa Valley community and beyond. Since 1999, this exhilarating and refreshing experience has been making a difference, and true Polar Plunger Veterans know that you must possess characteristics that include courage, boldness, a sense of adventure, and maybe a pinch of crazy.
WIN employees who took the glorified dive into Half Moon Beach, faced frigid temps and blustery winds, as they braved this extreme cold shock. Our employees shared the collective mission and vision of spreading inclusion, while improving and supporting the health and well-being of Wisconsin athletes through this fundraising opportunity that benefits nearly 9,000 Special Olympic athletes across the state, who compete at various levels year-round for their chosen sport. This year, the 2022 Polar Plunge in March celebrated the 50th anniversary of Special Olympics Wisconsin and featured teams from various local businesses, law enforcement and corrections agencies, schools, wacky tacky costume contests and dedicated volunteers.
